Yandex Expands Partnership with Ukrainian Companies

6 March, 2006, МоскваЯндекс

Internet, March 6, 2006. Yandex.Goroda now has a section dedicated to the cities of Ukraine. It includes Donetsk, Kiev, Luhansk, Odessa, and Kharkov. Adding a Ukrainian cities section to the project became possible thanks to wider cooperation between Yandex and Ukrainian companies.

A news feed of Ukrainian cities is available both at Yandex.Goroda and Yandex.News (see News in Regions of Ukraine at http://news.yandex.ru/regions/). Now Yandex users living in these cities can read both national and local news.

“Adding a city to Yandex.Goroda is impossible without having partners in that city,” explains Andrey Sebrant, Director for Special Projects, Yandex. “Our new partners are a tangible indicator of the progress we made in Ukraine since last year.”

The positions of Ukrainian cities on the index chart show that Kiev is far ahead of other Ukrainian millionaire cities by Internet penetration and development. The lists of most reputable city sites demonstrate that news sources enjoy the highest demand in Ukraine. In contrast to Russia, where university websites are usually ranked topmost among city sites, in Ukrainian cities the leading positions are taken by online media and city directories.

The project Yandex.Goroda was launched in spring 2004, and it has helped Yandex find new partners ever since. Today, its pages list hundreds of regional partners of Yandex. These are online media, local site directories, online advertising agencies, and restaurants providing free Wi-Fi Internet access to their customers. Yandex is open for partnership and offers plenty of possibilities for cooperation.
