Yandex Opens Development Office in Saint Petersburg

Internet, September 6, 2006. Today, Yandex has opened a development office in Saint Petersburg. By year-end, dozens of programmers from the North capital of Russia will start working in Yandex. This is the second branch office of Yandex: exactly a year ago, the company announced the opening of a representative office in Ukraine.

Employees of Yandex’s Saint Petersburg office will work as one team with the Moscow office programmers. They will develop the existing Internet services and create new ones for mass audience.

Head of the new Yandex office is Andrey Ivanov, who used to lead the Saint Petersburg branch of Borland. In the first months, the Saint Petersburg division will deal solely with development; later, the office may start performing additional marketing and commercial functions.

"There are lots of highly qualified programmers in Saint Petersburg," comments Andrey Ivanov, Director of Yandex office in Saint Petersburg. "We strongly hope that the best of them will become part of our team."

"People in Yandex are used to informal work organization and result orientation," says Ilya Segalovich, Yandex Chief Technical Officer. " We’ll visit Petersburg frequently, hold video conferences and internal company seminars."

Yandex is currently looking for information retrieval specialists and experienced programmers in C++ in Saint Petersburg. The company is also interested in attracting talented developers from other regions of Russia: for a number of vacancies, Yandex has a program assisting employees who move to Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
