Yandex Shows Traffic Jams on User’s Personal Route
Internet, October 28, 2009. Yandex shows current traffic conditions on a specified route. Now, in addition to the picture of traffic in the whole city, anyone who lives in Moscow or Moscow region and drives a car can have their own personal traffic informer right on Yandex’s front page. This informer shows traffic patterns on a user’s individual commute route.
Personal informer also shows severity of traffic congestion on a scale from zero to ten and an approximate time of travel. When traffic severity level is high enough, Yandex.Traffic suggests an alternative route with an estimate of time it will take to reach the destination. Users can set up the traffic informer for their personal routes right on the Yandex homepage.
“Moscow is a large city, and when the service shows the average eight for traffic congestion in Moscow and Moscow region, it might mean that in one particular area the traffic is free flowing. And the other way around. Now, users can see right next to the general informer, their own personal block of information telling them about traffic conditions on the roads they are going to take right now,” says Tigran Khudaverdyan, head of web portal services at Yandex.
