Web User in Focus of Mobile Search
Internet, May 5, 2009. Yandex launches location-aware search for mobile devices. Now, mobile web users do not have to ask around when they need to find the nearest McDonalds outlet, drugstore or coffee shop.
To perform location-relevant searches, users need to install the Mobile Yandex application available for download at http://mobile.yandex.ru/yandex or at m.ya.ru/my on a mobile device. The application supports Symbian and WinMobile platforms. This functionality is available in Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saratov and Ulyanovsk.
Web users can perform searches by name or by service. For instance, a tourist in Red Square in Moscow can enter “pizza” in the search field, and Yandex will deliver three pizza joints in the immediate proximity - one on Manege Square, one on Gazetny Pereulok and one on Maroseyka Street. The nearest pizza joint will be listed first. A traveller can give them a call just by clicking their phone number, or look them up on a map and go straight there.
