ELEKS’ CEO Alex Skrypnyk Participates in Meetings with Prime Minister of Ukraine
On June 2nd, 2011, ELEKS' CEO Alex Skrypnyk, along with prominent leaders in the Ukrainian IT industry, travelled to Kyiv to participate in official talks Nikolay Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine, and Vladimir Seminozhenko, Chairman of the State Agency on Science, Innovation and Information Technologies, with the sole purpose of discussing proposed laws meant to support and expand Ukraine's growing IT industry on the global market. Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has instructed the Government to submit the Draft Law to Ukraine's Parliament for consideration.
Representatives from the nation's largest IT firms noted that the proposed new laws would establish clear and unified rules for the IT industry which currently employees roughly 200,000 highly educated and highly skilled engineers and specialists. Since the beginning of 2011, the IT sales volume has already grown by 30%, and IT industry revenue is 1.5 billion dollars per year.
The meeting resulted in decision to set up a task force made up of representatives from the Ministry of Finances, State Tax Service and IT industry. This team will assess economic implications of the VAT refund for IT services.
Support from the government to promote the Ukrainian IT industry abroad was also promised by Mr. Nikolay Azarov. An early example of the government's willingness to help came when officials promoted Ukrainian IT innovations at the World Economic Forum in Vienna on June, 8th.
