The Winners of the Competition for the Best Letter to Jamie Oliver and Birke Baehr will Meet at the Gastronomic Master Class
The winners of the Social & Industrial Foodservice Institute (SIFI) competition for the best letter to Jamie Oliver and Birke Baehr, world-famous activists who stand for healthy food and organic farming, will be presented with the master class.
The master class will take place on May 18 at 16:00 in the Osteria Bianca.
The competition, organized by the SIFI, was held online at the School Feeding Forum in early 2013. Its participants had to write letters to the world-famous activists who stand for healthy food and organic farming.
Birke Baehr, the 11-year-old boy, figured out how actually the food is produced. More than 2 million people has viewed the video of his speech at the TED conference “What's wrong with our food system” in 2010. He recently published a book “Birk on the farm”. Jamie Oliver — English chef, who promotes healthy eating among students. Jamie is known as the host of popular TV shows: “School meals with Jamie” and “Food Revolution”.
The main goals of the competition: to attract attention of children and their parents to the problems of popularization of fast food, food additives and production intensification of cereals, fruits, vegetables and meat products; to demonstrate that each person can contribute to the solution of global problems.
27 works from Moscow, Omsk, Saransk, Stavropol and the Tula region were allowed to the competition. One of the main prizes for the winners — students from Luchik private school and health school # 1959 — was the lunch at the Italian restaurant. Students will have an unique opportunity to participate in a master class on cooking delicious and healthy Italian cuisine. In addition, children will learn how to choose products, which cooking methods had better preserve its beneficial properties, and more.
“We hold regular workshops for children in our restaurant. We are glad that this weekend we will held such an important and good event, — says Vitaly Ivanov, the manager of osteria. — In my opinion, it is particularly important that initiative, creative children will not only discover useful recipes of Italian food and other healthy issues, but will get to know each other and initiative people from abroad.”
“For me it was a great honour to read such a large number of letters sent by students, who live so far away from me. It was a real pleasure for me to learn about all the school children of different ages who are, just like me, interested in the food system, and how their food is produced. That gave me hope for our future generations, — writes Birke Baehr. — As for me, I think that the food is such an important thing for all of humanity, that is why everyone needs to know where it comes from and what it contains. I am grateful to the participants for their work, time and effort they have put into their writing and research, because I know that changes always start small before they can be turned into a global movement.”
