Internet, September 23, 2008. Yandex started informing its users about new messages they receive on social networking websites Vkontakte (In Contact) and Odnoklassniki (Classmates). Users can access their social networking profiles and read new messages by clicking through Yandex’s front page.

The application works without Internet connection, so that mobile device owners can use it even underground.

Во всём мире уже на протяжении многих лет существует различные виды премий: за достижения в области науки, журналистику, сфере СМИ, кино, театра, музыки, танцев спорта и так далее. Учитывая современное развитие Интернета, учреждена премия за достижения в сфере веб - индустрии - World Web Awards. В западных странах данная премия вручается уже на протяжении нескольких лет. В России её пока только вводят, но планируют вручать ежегодно.

Internet, September 1, 2008. Yandex launches an instant messaging service. This service is featured in the new version of Ya.Online (I’m.Online), Yandex’s free desktop application. The service is powered by Jabber and is compatible with user accounts, both on Yandex and on other jabber-based services like QIP, GMail and Livejournal.

Internet, August 20, 2008. Yandex embarked on a new stage of developing its infrastructure in Ukraine by increasing bandwidth between the company’s datacenters in Moscow and an Internet Exchange Point (UA-IX) in Ukraine five times, from 30 Mbit/s to 145 Mbit/s.

Internet, August 15, 2008. During the summer of 2008 Yandex search added international data exchange formats Sitemaps, GZIP, MediaRSS and FOAF to XML, RSS and Atom it already supported. The new Yandex search functionality allows better and faster indexing of "fast content" oriented websites like media websites, social network services, multimedia hosting services etc.

Internet, August 6, 2008. Yandex.Direct advertisers have got a new tool for managing their budgets: they can bid separately for contextual and for search ads. This ad management mechanism allows for better control over costs of placing contextual ads on websites in the Yandex Advertising Network (YAN).
